Potok minimizes risks of postoperative complications at the City Clinical Hospital named after S.S. Yudina

In June 2020 the Center for Specialized Surgery appeared at the City Clinical Hospital named after S.S. Yudina. The old building was reconstructed, the state-of-the-art equipment was installed. Clean air in operating and resuscitation rooms is provided by Potok equipment, which is integrated into ventilation systems.

“Here, in the clinic, one of the old buildings was seriously reconstructed, and now the specialized department for surgery of the upper limbs is being created. I guess, few people have ever encountered problems, injuries of shoulder, elbow, joints. There is specialized assistance will be provided in this building, highly qualified doctors, and good equipment will work. This is a significant event in our hospital, medical life”, marked Mayor of Moscow Sergei Sobyanin during his visit to the hospital named S.S. Yudina.

Key focus area for the center is purulent surgery. Specialized surgical care will be provided here, both with ordinary suppurations, and with life-threatening and rare purulent-inflammatory diseases of the arm and hand.

According to a study on the effectiveness of the “Potok” at N.I. Pirogov City Clinical Hospital No. 1 the level of postoperative wound purulent-septic complications was 0.15%, without“Potok” equipment it was 3.5-4%, when the global average complication rate for this type of operation was 1%.

Moreover, the cost of preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis of purulent-septic complications decreased by 6-10 times and represented a single administrating of second-generation cephalosporins instead of the previously 3-day administrating of this group of antibiotics (at least 6 injections).

Thus, the use of the Potok equipment will decrease the risk of nosocomial infections, increase treatment effectivenesst, and shorten the recovery and rehabilitation period of patients.
