German Technical University of Applied Sciences conducted tests of Russian Potok air decontamination units in Moscow Hospital

25-26 April 2017 one of the largest technical university of Bavaria Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden, and the Russia-based engineering company Potok Inter, a unique technology developer and a manufacturer of patented professional equipment for air decontamination, conducted trials of Potok equipment in operating room of Moscow City Clinical Hospital.

Purpose of the study: examine Potok technology for compliance with European standards of microbiological air safety in medical facilities.

Efficiency of Potok laminar flow device will be estimated by comparison of values of a bacterial contaminationin operating room (concentration of staphylococcus, streptococcus) without Potok unit (background level) with a contamination level after working 2 hours of unit.

For such research study concentration of microorganisms in the air was measured during two days in Moscow City Clinical Hospital, where Potok decontamination units have been operating for more than 9 years.Indoors there were 7 people (strength of the normal surgical team). The results of this study will be announced in mid-may.

The use of ceiling mounted air distribution systems in medical facilities is caused by the fact that there is strong bondbetween the concentration of microorganisms in the air in operating room and probability of sepsis development and the number of bacteria appeared from surgical wounds.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 5-10% of hospital patients are infected with healthcare-associated infections (HCAI). 2-2,5 million Russians suffer with HCAIevery year. Approximately 1/3 of hospital-acquired infections is connected with aerogenic transmission of pathogens. 30% of HCAI can be avoided. "Potok inter" offers an effective solution to this problem.

Potokair decontamination units based on Russian Bioinaktivation technology are intended for enhancing microbiological air safety of the air. They are used in a wide range of industries: healthcare, transportation, airspace industry, public facilities and household use. In the medicine application of Potok technology preventsHCAI, increases effectiveness of medical treatment, reduces sepsis and mortality rate, accelerates recovery process.

Marat Zagidullov, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Potok Inter: Our PotokBioinaktivation technology which is used more than 20 years has proved its efficiencyrepeatedly, including in the largest medical centers in Russia, such as Moscow City Clinical Hospital 1, N.N. Blokhin Russian Cancer Research Center of RAMS, Botkin Hospital etc. I am sure the Potoktrials will be successful, and the scientific activities of renowned in Europe University of Applied Sciences willenhance the credibility of our units”.
